Big Fish
Big fish is a twisted narrative film with a great sense of adventure and a story of compassion, overcoming the obstacles of life to achieve your goals and a reoccurring theme of death. It is refreshingly original and follows the life of Edward Bloom, played by the always-fantastic Ewan Mcgregor as the young and young adult Edward Bloom and Albert Finney as the elderly version of Edward Bloom. Along with Ewan Mcgregor there are a couple of A-List actors including Billy Crudup (known for his work in films such as Almost Famous and more recently his work in Watchman as Dr. Manhattan and Public Enemies as J. Edgar Hoover), the always hilarious Steve Buscemi (known for his work in Big Daddy and Fargo) Danny Devito (known most recently for his work in Always Sunny In Philadelphia) and even Helen Bonham Carter (known for her work in Fight Club and more recently as Bellatrix LeStrange in Harry Potter and as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd.)
There is a lot of jumping around at the beginning from young Edward to present Edward to old Edward and back again. As long as you don’t get confused, this film will keep you interested. Edward leaves his small town of Ashton in search of something. That something I personally will not reveal, you will have to watch to find out for yourself! This movie has everything from witches to giants and, you guessed it a BIG FISH. Along with a crazy list of characters there are also a bunch of crazy twists and turns along his adventure. Directed by Tim Burton, this heart touching film is incredibly moving and a must see.
