Blood Meridian

"Blood Meridian" by Cormac McCarthy is a tremendous book. This book, while a fiction, is loosely based on actual historical events during the 1850's where a band of ruthless Americans are killing Indians for their scalps.

McCarthy managed to completely erase any romantic image of the wild west. He examines completely destitute, desperate, ruthless lives of an 1850's frontier man.

The book consists of dense prose and requires patient reading. The casual reader may become frustrated but serious literary geeks will find McCarthy's masterful voice parallel to Melville's Moby Dick or, perhaps better stated, Joseph Conrad's The Heart of Darkness.
