Compound in red wine that helps in breast cancer therapy
The use of drug combination in the treatment of various forms of diseases has been long hailed as the most effective way of fighting diseases. This method has also been seen as an effective way of treating cancer. Only recently, it was discovered that the combination of a chemotherapeutic drug for breast cancer and a compound found in red wine can very effective in the treatment of breast cancer.
The anti-cancer drug, Rapamycin, have been long used in clinical trials for the treatment of breast cancer but breast tumors have developed a certain resistance for it. Research work then led to the discovery of a compound in red wine called Resveratol. Resveratol was found to prevent Rapamycin-induced resistance in breast cancer. Although still in its early stage of testing, it has already been proven that the drug combination of Resveratol and Rapamycin is very effective in killing off breast cancer cells than when Rapamycin is used alone.
According to researchers’ prediction, if this drug combination is valid, then glass of red wine, introduced into a diet before a chemotherapy with Rapamycin, could be one of the most effective way of treating breast cancer.
