Darker than Black: Ryūsei no Gemini
Darker than Black: Ryūsei no Gemini is the 12-episode sequel to anime series Darker than Black. It features a new protagonist Suo Pavlichenko although many of the characters from the first season not only make an appearance but have prominent roles to play in the story.
I watched this hoping to find out what happened to Hei and Yin after the end of Darker Than Black. We do learn a bit but not much and its disappointing that they spend so much of Darker than Black: Ryūsei no Gemini apart. Not only that, but both characters appear much changed and at the end I couldn't quite figure out what happened to them.
And that is my major complain with the second season. The ending leaves a lot of questions unanswered or at least too confusing for me to figure out. How did Hei and Yin end up separated in the first place ? I understand that Hei believed Yin dead at the beginning of Ryūsei no Gemini and this accounts for his change in character but how did it happen ? Are his dreams actual flashback of memory or symbolic of what occured ? Why did Yin manifest the powers she did ? Sure, there's a prophecy on what is going to happen but how did it happen in the first place. And what about that ending ? Are they alive ? Why was there 2 Yins and many more such questions ?
This second season is much darker than the first and while the ending is supposed to be hopeful, I still find it depressing. I almost wished that I hadn't watch it in the first place. But since I did, I wish that they'd make some sort of a sequel to explain the ending a bit more clearly.
