Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is another keeper. An anime series that I'd love and recommend.

It is the 2009 remake of the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime series. It follows the storyline of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga more closely compared to its predecessor and is one of my favorite anime series. The 64-episode anime series follows the adventures of Edward and Alphonse Elric who while attempting to recover the body parts they lost, uncovers instead a conspiracy which threatens all that they love.

I cannot rave enough about Fullmetal Alchemist : Brotherhood. The epic feel of the anime makes this one a keeper, an anime that I could watch again and again. Every tale in the story makes up the bigger picture whether it is to put us in the minds of the characters, unravel the layers of mystery or build up to the grand finale. This is not just a story about a quest or a conspiracy. It is also a story about the ties that binds us all; friends, family, allies and enemies. My brother and I had only just finished watching it the first time, before we were clamouring for a repeat already.

At the core of the Fullmetal's world is a simple rule of alchemy, that of equivalent exchange. Simple, but powerful. The alchemists are able to perform what amounts to miracles based on this principle. Yet despite what they are willing to sacrifice, there are some things which cannot be retrieved, like the lives of the dead.

Then, there are the characters. As we learn of their motivations and follow their growth, no matter whether we love or hate them, agree or not with their choices, we can't help sympathizing with them. Each of these characters are very real; imperfect but determined to live as they believe. And ultimately, they teach us that in life, there are never easy answers. Choked full of thought-provoking and poignant lessons, FullMetal Alchemists sometimes puts its main characters in the shoes of their enemy. With one stroke, each finds themselves walking the same path they once condemned.

If all that isn't enough, there are also the battles. Exciting, intense and dramatic. They'll keep you on the edge of your seat. The last 15 episodes especially are simply awesome. Besides that, if you've not seen the anime or read the manga, then you've also got the suspense. But even without the mystery of the conspiracy, you won't want to miss this.

This is a MUST watch for anime lovers. And if you aren't, well I believe FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood will convert you.
