Gate Keepers

The Gate Keepers anime is set in 1969, after the end of World War II in Japan. Unknown to most of the human race, beings known as 'Invaders' have emerged and are creating havoc amongst the human population. An organization called the Alien Exterminating Global Intercept System (A.E.G.I.S) have been setup to deal with this threat. The organization relies on Gate Keepers, people with special abilities to open a gate which provides them with superpowers. Only Gate keepers possess the ability to deal with the 'Invaders'.

At the start of the series, 17-year old Shun Ukiya is discovered to be a Gate Keeper and recruited to join A.E.G.I.S where he is reunited with childhood friend, Ruriko Ikusawa who is also a Gate Keeper. Throughout the series, they continue to meet and recruit other Gate Keepers to join their team as well as fight against the 'Invaders'.

My favourite character in the series is Yukino Hojou. She is the oldest Gate Keeper in the series but has stopped aging and appears as a young girl. She does not join A.E.G.I.S but helps Shun and Ruriko when they are in danger because they remind her of her past self. Yukino is probably the most powerful Gate Keeper in the series but she rarely speaks. When she does speak, it is usually in a form of a Japanese poetry. Still she has probably the best lines in the series. Most amusing of all is when Ukiya's younger sister declares that Yukino is leading a new trend.
