G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Forget what you remember or know about the G.I. Joe cartoon series. Suspend disbelief and your need for a logical storyline. Ignore the stilted romance. Just concentrate on the fights, explosions and chases and you'll have no problems enjoying this movie. I did when I stopped trying to puzzle out the logic behind the going-ons.
I was puzzled when the movie opened a few centuries before our time. Well, that scene has no consequence to the movie except to introduce us to what should be one of the main bad guys in the G.I. Joe world. Of course, he doesn't appear the rest of the movie. He is only briefly mentioned, but he is supposedly one of the reasons why what happens, happens. At least I think it is, I'm not sure.
Then, there's the occasional flashbacks into Duke's past which lets us know what went wrong with his romance. What happens in the end is expected but serves no point at all that I can see. Except as a means to get our hero out of harm's way when he can't.
And the open ending is so obviously a lead to a sequel. It also made me think of Heroes the series and the X-Men movies. I wonder why ? I don't dislike the movie but I'm not motivated to watch it or the sequel should there be one.
