Higher - Creed (song)
Higher is the first single from Florida rock band Creed's sophomore album Human Clay. The album debuted at No.1 and was certified 11x Platinum and 1x Diamond on 2010.
When this song first came out on the radio, I instantly loved it. It was a song that could give you the chills after listening to it. The lyrics were written by Creed's lead singer Scott Stapp when he had trouble with nightmares as he slept. After he wrote the song, he claimed he could sleep soundly again.
The first verse begins with, "When dreaming, I'm guided to another world time and time again". It's such a surreal phrase that makes you want to listen to the rest of the song. When we reach the chorus, it seems that the soft sounding verse was just building up to this powerful delivery. The line "Can you take me higher?" is powerfully sung through strong vocals and is a plea for someone to remove him from the hell that he's in, and take him away "to a place with golden streets". Creed's guitarist Mark Tremonti also delivers some of his best work in this song by doing a soft melody in the verses while tearing up some power chords at the chorus.
I really like the song. It has deep, meaningful lyrics that most people can refer to at some points in their lives. Listen to the song and you will see what I mean.
