Jinki: Extend

Jinki: Extend is a 13-episode mecha anime series released in 2005. The series has 2 main female protagonists whose stories are told simultaneously although they only meet the first time at the end of the story. Both Aoba and Akao are the pilots of giant humanoid robots called "Jinki" and manipulated by the antagonists in his scheme for vengeance. This includes having either Aoba either Akao kill the other, with the survivor's devil genes being activated and thus becoming another one of his tools.

I can't say that I enjoyed Jinki: Extend at all. The anime starts out as rather promising with the final battle between Aoba and Akao before flashing back to their past and re-telling their story. But the action and excitement soon peters out. None of their battles are exciting which is too bad. A part of that is due to the main characters themselves. Both of whom are rather boring. Most of the time you feel as if all their reactions are so cliche and fake. Even their denials of wanting to harm others (intended to be touching no doubt) falls flat. The only reaction it got from me was wanting to shout at them to get on with the story already. The ending too when it comes makes absolutely no sense. After that gigantic explosion which rocks the entire planet to find both of them unharmed with no explanation. What was the point ?

I'd give this one a miss.
