One Man's WIlderness by Sam Keith and Dick Proenneke
One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey is written by Sam Keith based entirely off the diary notes and photographs of Dick Proenneke. It is a true story
Dick Proenneke left the traditional life and moved to Alaska where he build his home and everything else he needed by hand. He hunted, fished and farmed for food. He truly lived off the fat of the land. He kept of journal simply for the sake of recording his time in Alaska. He never expected it be published.
Proenneke's journal entries are beautiful, introspective, succinct and fascinating. He had no formal education in writing, but his notes are so poetic and engaging that you would believe he was a professional writer.
The descriptions of the Alaskan wild the joys and hardships it offers captivated me through every page. I truly did not want this book to end.
