Samurai Champloo

I liked this 26-episode anime series.

Samurai Champloo was a fun watch. While I suspect I didn't fully understand some of the cultural references, I could still enjoy the series. The storyline was definitely a bit wacky with the 3 main protagonists often ending up in silly and hilarious situations, but it was an enjoyable watch.

There's also a story to it, rather than just a series of slice of life events for people like me who like to have some meaning or purpose to the story. Fuu's search for the samurai who smells of sunflowers was at least a plausible plot to put the 3 main characters together.

And with Mugen and Jin around, there's also a nice balance of action. It was a good contrast with the hot headed Mugen who fights based on his instincts while Jin is the quiet one who is a trained martial artist.

Best of all is the ending works. While it isn't the one I wished for, it leaves the possibility open for what I hope to happen.

Samurai Champloo is not one that would make it into my favourite list, but it isn't one I wouldn't mind watching again.
